Building International Cultural Partnerships Through Music, Education, and Collaboration

A case study exploring how educational partnerships and cultural collaboration can transform an international artistic residency into meaningful learning experiences and lasting community relationships.

Overview

The 2026 OIANT U.S. Tour was a collaborative international initiative that brought together artists, cultural representatives, producers, educational institutions, community organizations, and local partners to share the musical heritage of the Indigenous cultures of the Americas across multiple cities in the United States.

Led by the Orchestra of Indigenous Instruments and New Technologies (OIANT), Argentina, the tour combined artistic performance, educational outreach, cultural dialogue, and institutional engagement. Through concerts, educational presentations, community events, and professional networking, the residency created opportunities for intercultural learning while strengthening relationships among artists, educators, cultural organizations, and local communities.

Within this broader collaborative effort, I served as Cultural Representative and Educational Partnerships Advisor for the Washington, D.C. region, contributing to educational outreach, partnership development, cultural diplomacy, and institutional relationship building in coordination with OIANT, fellow cultural representatives, local collaborators, and partner organizations.

The Challenge

Coordinating an international cultural residency across multiple U.S. cities required collaboration among artists, cultural representatives, producers, host institutions, and local organizers, each working within different educational, cultural, and logistical contexts.

Every city presented unique opportunities and challenges, from building local partnerships and coordinating educational activities to adapting schedules, venues, audiences, and institutional priorities. Success depended not on the work of one individual, but on the collective efforts of a distributed network committed to expanding the educational and cultural impact of OIANT's residency.

Working as part of OIANT's broader national collaboration, my role focused on supporting the Washington, D.C. residency through:

Working alongside OIANT's leadership, Emilia Sosa, fellow cultural representatives such as Israel Lozano, Gerardo Martinez, Pablo Pico, local collaborators, producers, educators, and host organizations, I helped facilitate opportunities that connected the residency with schools, cultural institutions, community organizations, and educational stakeholders throughout the Washington metropolitan area.

National Cultural Representation

The success of the tour reflected the coordinated work of cultural representatives, producers, local organizers, and institutional partners across multiple cities in the United States.

Each representative contributed local knowledge, professional relationships, and regional coordination that allowed OIANT's residency to respond to the unique cultural and educational landscape of each community.

This distributed model of cultural representation expanded the tour's national reach while strengthening relationships between Argentina and the diverse institutions that welcomed the residency.

Washington, D.C. Partnerships

The Washington, D.C. residency developed through the collaboration of OIANT, local cultural organizations, educators, community leaders, producers, and institutional partners.

Within this collaborative framework, I supported relationship building and educational outreach by facilitating introductions, coordinating conversations, and helping connect the residency with organizations whose missions aligned with OIANT's educational and cultural objectives.

Tour Implementation

The implementation of the residency reflected the coordinated work of artists, producers, diplomatic organizations, cultural representatives, host organizations, educators, volunteers, and local collaborators across multiple cities.

Together, the team coordinated performances, educational activities, transportation, communication, scheduling, institutional meetings, and community engagement, adapting each residency experience to local needs and opportunities.

Educational & Cultural Outreach

Educational engagement represented an important dimension of the Washington residency.

Working collaboratively with OIANT, schools, educators, and community organizations, the residency created opportunities for students, teachers, researchers, and audiences to experience Indigenous musical traditions through educational performances, artist interactions, conversations, and cultural exchange.
