Who I Am & What I Do
I am Sandra M. Granobles, a Colombian-American musician, educator, creative learning designer, and cultural collaborator based in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.
With more than 15 years of experience in arts education, I combine curriculum development, experiential learning, creative facilitation, and community partnerships.
Throughout my career, I have designed educational experiences that invite learners to explore diverse musical traditions, develop creative skills, and connect their personal and cultural identities with the world around them.
Beyond the classroom, I collaborate with artists, educational institutions, and cultural organizations to develop programs that connect artistic expression with meaningful learning and community engagement.
My Roots in Music & Culture
My journey began in Cali, Colombia, where music was woven into everyday life through family gatherings, cultural celebrations, dance, and storytelling.
I studied Piano Performance and Music Education at Universidad del Valle, developing a foundation in musicianship, pedagogy, and artistic expression.
While my formal training was rooted in classical music, my curiosity led me to explore musical traditions around the world and how culture, creativity, and education shape human connection.
From Music Education to Learning Design
My professional journey in Washington, D.C., has expanded my understanding of learning beyond traditional classroom instruction.
As a public-school music educator, I have developed and facilitated learning experiences that integrate musical performance, composition, cultural exploration, collaboration, and creative technologies.
Through projects such as Global Folk Music Pathways™ and EarthBeat Ensemble, I have explored how structured learning experiences can connect artistic practice with cultural understanding, creativity, and student participation.
My work in cultural collaboration has also allowed me to support educational partnerships and connect artists, schools, and communities through shared creative experiences.
These experiences continue to shape my transition toward broader roles in learning experience design, educational program development, and cultural engagement.
2003 — The Wizard of the Flute: An early artistic showcase where music, theater, imagination, and childhood learning came together as one living language.
2005 — Private Piano Recitals: Performances at Cali’s Teatro Municipal and Hospital Universitario, exploring music’s ability to connect, accompany, and transform different human spaces.
My Approach to Learning
I believe meaningful learning begins when people feel seen, invited to participate, and empowered to create.
My approach is grounded in curiosity, cultural understanding, creative exploration, and reflection. I design experiences that invite learners to connect new knowledge with their identities, experiences, and communities.
Whether through music, storytelling, collaboration, or digital creativity, I create learning environments where people can explore ideas, build confidence, and contribute their unique perspectives.
