My Journey

My journey with music began in Cali, Colombia, where I discovered early on that music was more than an art form; it was a way of understanding people, culture, and community. Growing up surrounded by Colombia’s rich musical traditions inspired a lifelong curiosity about how music shapes identity and connects us to one another.

I pursued this passion by studying Piano Performance and Music Education at Universidad del Valle, where I developed a strong foundation in both musicianship and teaching. While my formal training focused on classical piano, I was equally drawn to the musical traditions, stories, and cultural expressions that exist beyond any single genre.

Moving to the United States opened a new chapter in my life and career. It allowed me to experience the incredible cultural diversity of Washington, D.C., and to witness how music can serve as a bridge between people from different backgrounds. Over the years, I have worked with students, families, artists, and organizations representing a wide range of cultures, languages, and experiences.

As a music educator with District of Columbia Public Schools, I have dedicated my career to creating learning environments where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered through the arts. My teaching integrates music literacy, performance, composition, creativity, and global music traditions, encouraging students to explore both their own cultural identities and those of others.

Beyond the classroom, I have collaborated with artists, cultural organizations, educational institutions, and community partners throughout Washington, D.C. These experiences have reinforced my belief that education extends far beyond school walls. True learning happens when people come together to listen, create, share stories, and build relationships.

At the heart of my work is a simple philosophy: music is one of humanity's most powerful languages. It transcends borders, generations, and differences. Through music, culture, and education, I seek to build bridges that foster understanding, creativity, respect, and community.

Whether teaching a child their first musical note, leading a performance, collaborating with artists, or supporting cultural exchange initiatives, my goal remains the same: to use the arts as a catalyst for connection, learning, and positive change.
